Using the phones in class

               Almost all children now have their cell phone to use for different reasons. Their parents seem likely to allow their children to use a phone at a young age. Some children are using their phones to play games more than talk or play games outdoors. Nowadays, people is also considering thinking about using their phones in class. Some people say “yes”, and some people say “no”. In my opinion, schools should allow students to use their phones in classes because the phone it will help them study and will help them reach their emergency contact when there is an emergency.

            Today, the growth of technology is so fast and very helpful for everybody. An important technological tool is the smartphone, the smartphone that have been designed with many tools on the phone. The student can use the internet to look up information about their lesson on the smart phones. The student can use the phone to help for studying, which especially some course like science classes or physic classes all the teachers may not really have enough information to supplement for a chapter. Sometimes the professor write many notices on the board during in class, but students do not have enough time to write down on their notes, their students can use the phones to take the picture to save and write them down later. An example, student can use the tools on the phone by some apps, the research to help student do the assignment in class; or some classes of the second language can use the phone by the dictionary to help them to know the new vocabulary words during class. All of those students should have a phone during classroom.                  

            The other reason students why should allow students use the phone in class because people can use the phone to keep contact with families. Nobody can know what will happen about their health or something else, so some students use the phone to stay in touch with their contacts to protect them in an emergency. For example, students can use the phone when they are sick in class at school and call the families to come to pick up them, another example is some students get a stroke in class so that another student in class can use the phone to call 911 to help the student. Alternatively, some students sometimes forgot their important assignment or homework have due on the day, but they cannot get home to have that so that student can call their parent to bring the paper for students. Moreover, the important is some students have been living with their parent but the parent needs always keep track with them because their parent live along at home and they doesn’t speak English, so they really keep contact with their student to protect themselves. Another important of the phone is the families can use the phone to keep track their children, because on the smart phone right now their family can use some app on their phone to know where their children at and can know they are at school or not.

            Some people argue that students should not use their phones during classes. Clearly, they believe that students may use their phones to cheat, to find distractions, and focus too much on the game or some social media website without studying. However, these arguments are simply may not true. While it is true that students can use the phone in classroom to cheat, to find distractions, or to focus too much on the games, they need their phones to research information. Their professors can watch students to make sure they  control what students do on their phones in class and stop them if they do something wrong in class.

In conclusion, the phones can be the good tools to help students to study and help to do an emergency call. In my opinion, people should strongly allow students to use the phone in class. Using the phone in class can help students research the information about their lesson for studying in class or help protect themselves when students need an emergency like stroke and call 911.

People who go to colleges right now have to choose a major, but they may not know which major to choose yet, changing of the major too late will affect a student’s life a lot. People can find research about different majors on the internet. As can be seen in the graphic, 40% of incoming freshmen and 30% of current students are undecided about their major. The graph shows that 50%-70% of students change majors at least one. Choosing the major too late can be a problem because that will be waste of time, money and will affect financial aid.

Many students have been staying at their school one or two years but they still do not know what major is interesting for them. The number of changing major has been increasing at all colleges now. This is the problem because students who give up at the last minutes will make effects their time. First, people who take wrong a major will be waste time, because they will spend their time for a couple of years but they get nothing. For example, some students choose a nursing major then after two years, they change another major to businesses so that those two years of learning the nursing major class don't need for the business major; they need to start over. Moreover, some classes are not necessary for other major. 
Finally, changing majors can affect a student financially in terms of the student's income and financial award. Each year at colleges, students spent a lot of money and use the financial aid to help to support to payment. However, students who changing a major late will waste too much money in financial aid and may have less financial aid to use later. Another reason when the students very often change their major, it will aspect to their FAFSA. Example, the FAFSA will give every student 150 unit to help them in college, but the student is doing 60 unit at the second years; so if they change to a new major they only have 90 unit left to support them then the student have to pay by their money later. 

The best way to help students who want to change a major that talk to people to take advantage of their knowledge. A person who gives the students advice needs to experience about deciding a major because if the person doesn’t have enough knowledge to share with students that are making again and cause the problem to students. Therefore, whoever people listen and learn from them will help students to prepare to make the good decision. Another solution to help the student is research on the internet to know what they do need to change a major. For example, people who want to change major and transfer to another college. They can find which classes are necessary for their major at other schools, and then they can just take exactly which classes to save time and money; the student can find a counselor, parents, etc. The last solution for this problem is checking the bank account because students should need to know how much money could afford to pay a year at colleges. Some the cost of school is very expensive.

            The effect of changing a major is still increasing on students. People need to consider their option carefully to prepare before choosing a major, because going to school is the best way to make people's life better. In my opinion, people need to go to ask the counselor, parent or someone have experience about choosing a major before going to colleges. People who can choose a right major for them may avoid waste their time, money and thier financial aid.
